The Spring 2026 Health Insurance Requirement process is now open!

DEADLINE is NOVEMBER 17, 2025.

All full-time enrolled students with an approved waiver from the Fall 2025 semester will have their waivers re-verified for compliance for the Spring 2026 semester. All full-time students Enrolled in the Student Blue Plan will be re-enrolled for the Spring 2026 semester, unless you submit a waiver request to opt-out with your own insurance.

All incoming, transfer or re-admitted students will be able to Waive (opt-out) with your own insurance or Enroll in the Student Blue Plan via the Student Blue Portal. Details are included in recently sent emails.

Please note: The Health Insurance Compliance Requirement is a semesterly process for the Fall and Spring semesters (each semester/every academic year) for all full-time enrolled students.

Waiver Criteria

Students may petition to waive their enrollment in the Student Blue Plan if they provide documentation that the policy criteria are met:

  • The claims administrator of the plan is based in the United States, has a U.S. telephone number and address for submission of claims, and the insurance policy has not been issued outside the U.S.
  • The plan provides emergency care in the Elon/Alamance County/ North Carolina area, including Cone Health Systems.Note: Students who hold an F1 or J1 visa are automatically enrolled in the Elon Student Blue Plan and the coverage cannot be waived. The premium charge will be on their bill and the student will be responsible for paying the entire premium.

Students can complete the enrollment or waiver process by visiting the Student Blue Plan Website. To complete the waiver process, students will need their Student ID # (available through On Track), the date of birth of the primary policyholder/subscriber (usually their parent or partner), and a copy of their current insurance card to upload.

Waiver requests at all other times of the year will be reviewed and responded to within ten business days.

Winter/Spring Waiver Period

The waiver period for Winter/Spring 2026 is open, deadline date is November 17, 2025.

Current Students

Students who currently have insurance and has a waiver on file from the Fall 2025 semester, your waiver will be reverified for compliancy for the Spring 2026 semester.

  • Current students with an approved waiver that do not meet the adequate insurance requirement will need to resubmit a Waiver Request with your updated insurance information.
  • Students who do not have adequate coverage must enroll in the Student Blue Plan. Students can complete the enrollment process by visiting the Student Blue Portal and going to the “enroll” tab.
  • Current students must be in full compliance with the student health insurance requirement by Nov. 17, 2025 to avoid the premium charge being placed in their bill.

To upload your insurance information, you will need:

  • Your Elon Student ID # (available On Track)
  • Insurance policy information (available on your insurance card)
  • The date of birth of the primary subscriber (may be a parent or an employed partner)
  • A photo of both sides of your insurance card (you will need to upload both sides)

New Students

Enrollment opens Oct. 28, 2025 for new undergraduate and graduate students starting in Winter/Spring 2026. New Graduate students may begin enrolling Oct. 28, 2025.

To request a waiver, students must upload their insurance documentation before November 17, 2025, or within 10 business days of acceptance to the university.

To upload your insurance information, you will need:

  • To create your Student Blue Account by logging into the Student Blue Portal page.
    • Select “New Student Blue User?” to create your account.
    • Select “Request Waiver”.
  • Your Elon Student ID # (available On Track)
  • Insurance policy information (available on your insurance card)
  • The date of birth of the primary subscriber (may be a parent or an employed partner)
  • A photo of both sides of your insurance card (you will need to upload both sides.

If you do not currently have health insurance that meets the waiver criteria for Spring 2026 and need to enroll in the Student Blue Plan: If your current health insurance does not meet the waiver criteria or you do not have health insurance, visit the Student Blue Plan website and follow the instructions on the “Enroll” tab to enroll in the Student Blue plan for the spring.

  • To complete your enrollment, visit the Student Blue Plan website and follow the instructions on the “Enroll” tab to enroll in the plan for the spring.
  • The Spring premium ($1486.32 – undergraduates and $1981.74- graduates/law) will be added to your student bill.
  • Once you pay your tuition bill, you do not need to take any additional steps. The university will forward your premium payment to Blue Cross Blue Shield.
  • Your Student Blue plan benefits will begin February 1. You will receive more information about plan benefits and how to access your benefits in the next few weeks.

Study Abroad and Part-Time Students

Study Abroad and Part-time students for the Spring 2026 semester are not subject to the Health Insurance Requirement and do not need to take action if you have your own insurance, however if you are enrolled in the Student Blue Plan or need to Enroll in the Student Blue Plan and/or want to continue your Enrollment in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2026 semester, please contact us at healthinsurance@elon.edu to request Enrollment in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2026 semester.

Please note: Study Abroad students for the Spring 2026 with you own insurance will need to re-submit your waiver to opt-out with your own insurance during the Fall 2026 Health Insurance Requirement process.  An email will be sent to you while you are abroad around the time of your class registration email. Study Abroad students that are enrolled in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2026 semester will need to Enroll in the Student Blue Plan during the Fall 2026 Health Insurance Requirement process. (BCBS will not re-enroll you in the Student Blue Plan for the Fall 2026 semester)

If you are Part-Time student you are not subject the Health Insurance Requirement however you can still enroll in the Student Blue Plan for coverage for the Spring 2026 semester by emailing at healthinsurance@elon.edu to request to Enroll in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2026 semester. If you are a Part-Time student currently enrolled in the Student Blue Plan for the Fall 2025 semester and need to continue your Enrollment in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2026 semester, you will need to email us at healthinsurance@elon.edu to request to continue your Enrollment in the Student Blue Plan for the Spring 2026 semester.  (BCBS does not re-enroll automatically for the Spring 2026 semester)

International Students

Students who hold an F1 or J1 visa are required to enroll in the Elon Student Blue Plan and the coverage cannot be waived. The premium charge will be on their bill and the student will be responsible for paying the entire premium.

It is important that you also complete the enrollment process as soon as possible. Students can complete the enrollment process by visiting the  Student Blue Portal and going to the “enroll” tab.

Premiums for 2025-2026 are $1486.32 per semester (undergraduates) and $1981.74 per semester (graduates)- subject to regulatory approval.
