DescriptionPolyglot LLC Image 1

The Polyglot or World Languages LLC is a community for students who are eager to explore languages other than English, to speak them as much as possible, and to share their passion for multicultural and multilingual experiences with other students and faculty mentors.  The Polyglot LLC is one tree with many branches. It is a home for students who want to improve their linguistic skills in a specific language while also learning about cultural diversity in general, helping them to become more globally aware and engaged. It is also a space for students to learn more about their own cultural-situatedness, thinking in meaningful ways about culture. The Polyglot LLC is open to all students who wish to engage with world languages currently taught at Elon (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, and Spanish). Students residing on the Polyglot LLC floor are expected to engage in coursework in one of these languages.

Goals for the Polyglot LLC are to provide a warm and intellectually stimulating environment where students will:

  • Improve their language fluency in a relaxed environment while developing their intercultural awareness and competencies
  • Learn about various cultures (from each other, from guests, and through participation in cultural activities on campus and in the community)
  • Prepare, maintain and further enhance their language skills if they plan to study abroad or upon return from a program abroad
plan and participate in activities that promote leadership, personal responsibility, teamwork and group identity
  • Spread awareness on campus about the Polyglot Floor living-learning community

Typically, there are larger communities of students studying French, Spanish and Italian, but we are excited to build clusters of students learning all of the languages that Elon offers.
